Search marketing has become one of the biggest points of emphasis for businesses everywhere. And why not? If a customer is searching for the product/service you offer, of course you want the business to appear in their results.
For this reason, companies that do their search marketing really well find this to be one of the highest ROI initiatives they can do. And as common sense would tell you, a whole industry of marketers helping such companies has emerged.
Whether Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Paid Search, or any other search related marketing strategy, this is a great specialization for marketers to consider. There’s not a single business in the world that wouldn’t want to improve their search marketing performance.
When it comes to learning about Search Marketing, however, there’s almost too many sources to consider. It can get overwhelming. Which is why we have turned this into a learning path of the best sources, most important subjects to cover, and best career resources to make this lucrative for marketers.
On the left, each tab represents a subject. And then within each subject, we’ll explain how to learn it best…
Search Marketing School is the most comprehensive curriculum we found on the internet for search. It covers everything we mentioned in this section’s introduction. It receives rave reviews and comes from a highly reputable marketing education site.
While the course’s cost is a bit expensive, the curriculum is so comprehensive that we have exhausted all the Search Marketing topics you need to learn (and it would be roughly the same price if you took each of these subjects individually on other sites).
Our motto is quality over price, as long as price is reasonable. And compared to more formal education options, this price is very, very reasonable. So we’re going with this one! Then the rest of the Learning Path will be quite cheap to make up for the cost of this course.
The comprehensive MarketingProfs course we suggested in the first tab is great if you want to learn the totality of Search. However, some people might be here for SEO only. And if this is the case, we want to suggest an alternative to that course – DistilledU Search. This covers SEO even more thoroughly and is cheaper.
If you’re coming to this page from our Marketing Learning Path, you’ve heard this before. If not, pay attention because this is important.
In the marketing world, learning the fundamentals are absolutely critical. Things like persuasion, sales, branding, creativity, and measurement. We view Search Marketing as more of a marketing specialization, which is great but not a full education on the subject. Marketers will always be more effective if they understand the totality of marketing and the different skills/subjects that lead to success. This is why we recommend starting with that learning path and choosing Search as a specialization.
